Modest Fashion Friday: Faux Wrap Dress

Welcome back to Modest Fashion Friday. Each week, I feature a modest fashion outfit I have worn recently. Hope you enjoy and maybe even get inspired!

Wrap dresses are so flattering. Often, they are made of knit, which means they’re super comfy. They’re easy to dress up or down. And as a mama with a little nursling, they provide easy access to feed baby.

I have three wrap dresses, but the one I’m featuring here is by far my favorite. The pattern on the fabric is so pretty. I also love that it is actually a faux wrap. That means there is no opening in the skirt, which makes me feel a bit more secure. (Less chance of a wardrobe malfunction, if you know what I mean.) I always wear a tank under my wrap dresses, for modesty’s sake.

Modest Fashion Friday: Transitioning to Fall

modest-fall-maxi-skirt

Transitioning your wardrobe from summer into fall can be a fun challenge. Here in the Northeast, we’re still having some warmer days, but the weather is steadily cooling down as the weeks go by. Now is the time to break out the fall outfits. However, if you’re like me, you may be looking for ways to incorporate some of your summer clothing items into your fall wardrobe, at least as we transition between the seasons. A maxi skirt is a great way to bridge the gap between summer and fall.

I love pairing a pretty, flowing maxi skirt with a denim jacket. This outfit combines a soft knit maxi (featuring a lovely paisley pattern) with a light beige colored denim jacket and a pair of cute open toed booties. It’s a look that can carry me into cooler weather, but still has a light, airy feel for those Indian summer days we’ve been having lately.

This comfy outfit for early fall is a great way to feel put-together and ready for any kind of weather.

Fall Fab Fit Fun Unboxing

fall-fab-fit-fun-unboxing

Subscription boxes can be so much fun. Fab Fit Fun is a favorite subscription box for many people, including me. It comes four times a year (seasonally). My fall Fab Fit Fun box just arrived the other day and I wanted to share with you what’s inside. The contents of these boxes are always really great. (Another thing I really love about these subscription boxes is that each box is a surprise–it’s like getting a birthday or Christmas present every time you receive one!) Every box I’ve received from Fab Fit Fun has been well worth the price of the subscription.

I love so many of the things included in the fall box. So many of the items in the box are things I plan to get plenty of use out of. Here are some of my favorite items from the fall Fab Fit Fun box.

“Good Morning Gorgeous” Travel Mug

fall-fab-fit-fun-unboxing3

I have a thing for travel mugs. I don’t travel to work, or even drink coffee that often, but I really like how a travel mug feels in my hand. Often, if I’m going out somewhere in the morning, I will take some tea or occasionally coffee in a travel mug. So, I was so excited when I saw this beautiful one in the box. It is a glossy black mug with gold lettering on the front which reads, “Good Morning Gorgeous” in a glamorous looking font. I just love it.

Pure Cosmetics Nude Collection Eye Shadow Pallette

Neutral eye looks are my go-to, so when I saw this palette in the box, I got really happy. The color range in the palette is nice, with a good mix of matte and shimmer. The shadows are very good quality and are very pigmented. I’ve tried a couple of eye looks with this palette already, and I’m very pleased with how they turned out. The staying power of these shadows its great as well. I had never heard of this makeup brand before, but I’m impressed. Now that I’ve been introduced, I may have to investigate what else the line has to offer. (Yes, the colors in this palette bear a close resemblance to a certain other nude eyeshadow palette we are all familiar with. I’m not sure if it could be called a dupe, but it is definitely very similar.)

 Modcloth Plaid Blanket Scarf

fall-fab-fit-fun-unboxing5

I’ve been wanting a blanket scarf for a while now, so I was very excited when I pulled this one from the box. It is so, so soft. Because I’m a regular scarf wearer anyway, this was a perfect addition to the box for me, and I know i’ll get lots of use from it. I’ve already been enjoying experimenting with ways to wear it. (Stay tuned for a post on ideas for styling a blanket scarf—I plan to share one in the near future.) The background of this scarf is a soft beige and the plaid has greens, browns, and reds, so it will go with a variety of outfits. You really need to see this scarf in person to appreciate how pretty it is.

Modcloth is a favorite clothing brand of mine; I was actually quite surprised to find that they had a line of these scarves. If you haven’t checked out what Modcloth has to offer, you really should. Their vintage inspired designs are to die for.

Things Coloring Book and Pencils of Promise Colored Pencils

fall-fab-fit-fun-unboxing8

The adult coloring craze has made it’s way into the Fab Fit Fun box. This is a lighthearted, fun little coloring book. I don’t have much time to color these days, but I’m looking forward to trying it out sometime. The colored pencils included with the coloring book are distributed through Pencils of Promise, which is a program which gives educational opportunities to underprivileged children throughout the world. It sounds like a wonderful program and I’m so pleased to see this company contributing to such a worthy cause in this way.

Mullien and Sparrow French Lavender Body Oil

fall-fab-fit-fun-unboxing4

Lavender is one of my absolute favorite scents. This body oil, made with natural ingredients (which I love), smells delightful. It has a perfect lavender scent. The oil itself is moisturizing without being heavy or greasy. Spreading this oil on your skin makes for a lovely and relaxing experience.

Skin Laundry Restoring Night Serum

I haven’t had a chance to try this serum yet. (As I mentioned in my Nighttime Skincare Routine, lately I’ve been using a light moisturizer at night.) I do plan to try it sometime soon. It has a nice scent that isn’t overpowering.

fall-fab-fit-fun-unboxing9

There were several other items included in the box which I’m looking forward to trying. Some of  the remaining items that really caught my eye are the Spongelle Hungarian Rose body was infused buffer, which smells absolutely devine and the Brow Gal Clear Brow Gel.

I can’t wait to dig into these goodies and start using them!

If you are interested in finding out how you can get your own Fab Fit Fun subcribtion box, follow this link and you’ll receive $10 off your first box. I just know you’re going to love this subscription box as much as I do. So, what are you waiting for? Get your box now, before the fall boxes are all gone!

Simple Autumn/Fall Decor

simple-fall-decor

It’s official. Fall is here! It’s time to decorate!

Inspiration for autumn decor is all around us this time of year. Simply stepping outside can give me a flood of ideas for bringing the autumn theme into the decor of my home. Like many people, I consider autumn to be my favorite time of year. I love to see the leaves change colors and feel the air turn cool and crisp. The hills around our home are splashed with autumnal brilliance. Then the ground is slowly covered in red and yellow confetti as the foliage begins to fall from the trees. It’s exhilarating!

The Mantle

As excited as I am for fall decor, I like to keep my holiday decorating fairly simple. I prefer to use a handful of carefully chosen decorations to bring the autumn theme to life. The mantle is always a good place to start.

simple-fall-decor2

I’ve had these votive holders and silk leaf wreaths for a few years now, and every year when I pull them back out, they still look great. So, I keep using them year after year. Don’t you love decorations like that?

simple-fall-decor3

The Dining Table

Because there are 10 people sitting around our dining table each night, I try to keep the centerpiece fairly easy to move. Who wants to spent time removing and replacing an elaborate table scape two are three times a day? Not me. This simple fall centerpiece consists of a pretty painted pitcher with some silk flowers and leaves displayed in it and a cloth napkin spread underneath. The napkin has pictures of pumpkins, leaves, and acorns embossed into its fall color scheme of rust brown, burgundy, and dark green. (Please excuse the smudges on the french doors in the background. Did I mention that I have 8 kids? The equals lots of fingers making prints on my windows.)

The Kitchen Island

I love the fact that so many typical fall decorations can be found for free. This line of artfully displayed pumpkins was harvested right out of our own garden. And it sets the perfect autumn mood, don’t you think?

The Front Door

We can’t neglect the outdoor decorations, which are my personal favorite. I love pulling into my driveway after being away from home (no matter how long I’ve been gone), to be greeted by several happy, round, orange pumpkins by the front door.

fall-front-door

I just love to see a fall wreath hanging on the door. The wreath on my door this year is very simple (in keeping with the rest of my decor theme), but it stills gives a nice impact. It is made up of a grapevine wreath as the base with autumn colored florals adorning the top. So cozy and inviting! Can’t you just smell the hot apple cider simmering on the stove?

What is your favorite way to decorate for fall? Feel free to leave a comment below sharing your autumn decor tips.
