Keeping It Casual in Khaki and Blue

casual-khaki-skirt-blue-blouse

Spring is in full swing here, and I’m loving the beautiful weather (when the sun actually decides to shine for more than five minutes at a time—this is New England after all!). Relaxed, casual looks are what is called for in these late spring and early summer days.

This week’s outfit features a knee length khaki skirt I picked up at a thrift store years ago. Skirts like this one are not too hard to find. I love the relaxed feel of this skirt. The color and weight are perfect and the fabric is durable, making it a great item for everyday wear for a busy mom like me.

I paired the skirt with a peasant style top in a pretty blue and white floral. I love the feminine details in this blouse. The print of the fabric reminds me of a willow wear plate, which makes it even more fun to wear!

I chose to style this outfit with a pair of simple flats. These have been my go-to shoes for most of the spring this year. They are very comfortable. The neutral color of these shoes means they go with absolutely everything.

Overall, I’m really loving wearing this casual khaki skirt and pretty peasant blouse this spring!

Boho Tunic Worn Two Ways

boho-tunic-two-ways

If you’ve been a regular reader here for any amount of time, you may have noticed that I have an affection for the boho chic style. I also really love a good floral pattern. Today’s post features not one, but two outfits that incorporate both of those things.

Amazingly for me, every item in these outfits is currently in store or online. Being the thrift store shopper that I am, my clothing items are typically good quality pieces from previous seasons. So, I’m excited to share this outfit, because if you like any of the items, you can purchase them for yourself while they’re still available!

This floral patterned tunic from Old Navy is quickly becoming a favorite item from my wardrobe. I’ve worn it several times since I bought it, and it has shown itself to be a surprisingly versatile piece. I’ve worn it dressed up for church, as well as styled more casually for everyday.

(Technically, the tunic is actually considered a dress on the Old Navy website. However, it is entirely too short for my comfort as a dress. But, it is the perfect length to wear as a tunic!)

Today, I’d like to share two different ways I’ve styled this tunic recently.

Outfit 1

boho-tunic-skirt-bag

This first look is on the dressier side. It made a comfortable and pretty outfit for church on a recent Sunday. This tunic is so easy to wear, and I love the colors in the print. I’m a huge lover of all things that feature roses, so this print is right up my alley.

boho-tunic-skirt

Pairing the tunic with this maxi skirt really emphasizes the boho feel of the tunic. A side braid and wedge sandals enhance the fell as well. I topped off the look with a fun navy and mint straw fedora and some silver pendant earrings.

Outfit 2

boho-tunic-jeans

Styling the tunic with pants gives it a much more casual vibe. I really like the longer length tunic with these boot cut jeans. A pair of lavender sandals with a pretty rose detail add a fun accent to the outfit.

I love versatile pieces like this floral boho tunic. It’s fun to think creatively about your wardrobe and come up with lots of combinations for items in your closet, don’t you think?

Do you have an item in your wardrobe you especially enjoy styling lots of different ways? Please share in the comments—I’d love to hear about it!

What to Wear to a Spring or Summer Wedding

A very dear friend of ours was married last weekend, and we attended the wedding. This week’s post will highlight my wedding outfit. You’ll also get a glimpse of what some of my kiddos wore as well.

At the end of the post, you’ll find some inspiration for other wedding attire, in case you’re looking for the perfect outfit to wear to a spring or summer wedding.

This pretty chiffon dress came from Old Navy last season. It is so light and airy, and it feels very feminine to wear. I adore the soft blue color and the watercolor effect of the pattern. This dress has a high-low hemline—it’s the only one of these I own presently. The dress is fully lined, though I wore a slip as well for modesty’s sake.

The dress is sleeveless, so I added a flyaway cardigan for coverage and to dress up the look a bit. I got this lovely little cardigan from (where else?) ThredUp. It is light and comfortable—it makes a perfect layering piece for spring.

spring-wedding-shoes

I chose these sandals because they are dressy enough for an event like a wedding, but they’re still comfortable enough to wear all day. The taupe color blends beautifully with the blues in the dress and cardigan, tying the look together.

The necklace is a fun addition which adds just a hint of sparkle to the outfit without being over the top. It is a longer length, giving a bit more interest to the otherwise simple upper portion of the dress.

Because the necklace is so detailed, I chose earrings that are a bit simpler. They enhance the necklace without completing with it.

I just had to share a pic of my handsome little fellas. Wouldn’t you agree they look very dapper in their coordinating suits? Surprisingly, I picked these up at our local Walmart.

Modest Fashion Friday: Navy Wrap Dress

A wrap dress is a beautiful thing. Universally flattering, a wrap style dress is comfortable and versatile. If it’s a faux wrap (or surplice) in a nice draped fabric like a knit, it’s even better. To add modesty to a wrap dress, I always wear a cami or tee underneath it.

navy-wrap-dress

This navy print dress is new to my wardrobe. I found it on (where else?) ThredUp. I love the small, subtle swirls on the print. The color is beautifully neutral. It has a narrow tie belt that makes a nice accent to the dress.

The cami I wore with the dress is from Old Navy. I’ve had it for a long time and it has served me well in many situations. It’s great for adding a bit of extra coverage, like in this case. It’s also useful for adding an extra layer of warmth if needed.

When I first spotted these shoes (also on ThredUP), I wanted to sigh in admiration. They’re simple navy pumps, but what makes them special is the classically feminine silhouette and the fact that they are in snake skin. I’m not a huge fan of wearing animal patterns, but the snake skin pattern on these shoes is extremely subtle. It’s just enough to give some interest and texture while still looking simple and classy.

I  kept the accessories simple with a silver chain and small cross pendant, along with drop earrings.

This outfit was easy to wear and perfectly suited to my own personal sense of style. I especially love this dress and shoes.

Do you have a wrap dress? Do you love wearing them as much as I do?

Modest Fashion Friday: Pretty in Pink

The blush pink trend I’m seeing in fashion right now has me very happy. Blush pink is the ultimate feminine, girly color!

blush-blouse-floral-skirt

To celebrate the spring weather that has finally reached our region (for real!), I’m showing off my new favorite blush pink blouse and a pencil skirt in soft tones of floral.

This blouse came to me through ThredUp, but it’s still available through Old Navy. It’s soft and flowing and flattering on just about anyone. I love the delicateness of both the color and texture of this blouse.

I chose the skirt to wear with the blouse because it brought out the color palette perfectly. The soft blush pink of the blouse is beautifully echoed in the pink of the floral print on the skirt.

This knee length A-line skirt is a surprisingly versatile piece. I’ve worn it dressed up, as with this outfit. I’ve also worn it with a T-shirt and sandals for a more casual look. (And it was yet another ThredUp find.)

The shoes are classic nude pumps. You may have seen them before here on the blog. They are an absolute wardrobe staple. They truly do go with almost everything in my closet.

A long string of pearls, looped and knotted, lends a classy and elegant feel to the look. The earrings I chose with this are a neutral colored drop style that blend well with the overall outfit. And the watch is a fun addition in a pretty pink that coordinates perfectly with all the blush tones in the other pieces.

This is a perfect outfit for a sunny spring day. It has a feminine, timeless appeal that I really love.

So tell me, do you love the blush tones  as much as I do?

Spring Skirts to Pair with Chambray

A classic chambray shirt can pair beautifully with so many outfits. I thought I would try my own favorite chambray button down with 3 spring skirts.

Outfit 1

blush tulle skirt with chambray shirt

This outfit is fun and feminine. I’ve been seeing skirts like this one for the past couple of seasons, and the looked so pretty and girly, I just had to try one. This skirt is a bit more “fluffy” than I normally wear, but pairing it with the chambray tones down the look and keeps it from becoming too fussy.

spring skirts in tulle

For the accessories, I chose peep toe heels in a neutral dark brown to ground the look. I added the floral belt, which picks up the colors in both the shirt and skirt and ties both together. A sparkly statement necklace adds just the right amount of bling.

I had so much fun putting this outfit together. Even though I don’t typically wear something like this, I enjoyed challenging myself to try something new. Maybe I’ve inspirited you to do the same!

Outfit 2

yellow floral pleated skirt

I love the slightly retro feel of this look. This time, I paired the chambray shirt with a pleated floral skirt in a pretty pastel yellow. There is a classic ‘50s quality about this outfit that I really love.

knee length pleated floral skirt with chambray shirt

A pearl necklace and earrings make the perfect accessories to bring out the vintage vibe. And these shoes! A cream colored slingback heel, these shoes are so lovely and feminine.

This classic outfit is so ladylike and pretty.

Outfit 3

linen maxi skirt

This look is a bit more casual than the others, but no less feminine. The toned down blue of the chambray blends beautifully with the tan skirt. I love the details in this linen skirt. A wide belt cinches in the waistline.

The turquoise in the necklace adds a bit of color and interest to the outfit. Beige wedge sandals complete the look.

I like the laid-back feel of this outfit.

It was a fun challenge to find different ways to style a chambray shirt with these spring skirts.
